MA Thesis: Election Cable News Coverage and Issue Salience: A Real Time Analysis of Voting Behavior and Media Consumption in the 2013 Virginia Gubernatorial Race in Millennial and Baby Boomer Women
August 2013 –December 2013
Required to fulfill American University’s Master’s capstone component, I conducted real time research into the media consumption and voting behaviors of a subset of women voters in Virginia during the 2013 gubernatorial campaigns. I informed my political environment with interviews from professionals in the field, including editors and top reporters from various news sources in the Washington, D.C. area. Combined with qualitative and quantitative web survey results of voters in Virginia, I explore the results in the context of the communication theory of issue ownership in modern electoral politics and created a messaging box by media to inform modern voter media consumption habits for use by upcoming political campaigns.
